A Guide
What is Kingdom Identity?
Anchored in 1 Peter 2:9 — a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God.
Kingdom Identity is the believer's God-given identity as a citizen of Heaven's kingdom and a member of God's royal priesthood. It is not a title earned by performance, a personality type, or a religious role. It is a position received through Yeshua the Messiah — and once received, it reshapes how a disciple thinks, lives, prays, and serves.
"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." — 1 Peter 2:9
Where the idea comes from
Peter is quoting Exodus 19:5–6, where God first declared Israel a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. In the New Covenant, this calling expands to every disciple of Yeshua (Revelation 1:6). Kingdom Identity is therefore not a modern slogan — it is the continuous thread of how God has always defined His people: chosen, royal, priestly, holy, and sent.
Four pillars of Kingdom Identity
1 Peter 2:9 names four interlocking truths that form one identity:
- Chosen people — You are not an accident. You were known, named, and called before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4).
- Royal priesthood — You carry both authority (royal) and access (priestly). You represent the King and you mediate His presence to those around you.
- Holy nation — You belong to a people, not just a private faith. Kingdom Identity is lived in covenant community.
- God's special possession — You are loved, owned, and defended by the Father Himself. Your worth is settled by His claim on you.
Characteristics of a disciple living in Kingdom Identity
When a believer truly receives this identity, certain traits begin to mark their life. These are not requirements to earn the identity — they are evidence of it taking root.
- Rooted in Scripture. Their worldview is shaped by the Word, not by culture, comfort, or fear.
- Anchored in prayer. They speak with the Father as sons and daughters, not as strangers begging the gate.
- Submitted to discipleship. They walk under spiritual covering and walk alongside others — never lone-wolf faith.
- Marked by holiness. They pursue purity of heart, speech, and conduct, because they represent a holy King.
- Quick to serve. A priest exists for others. Kingdom Identity is expressed through washing feet, not building platforms.
- Bold in witness. They declare His praises — naming Yeshua plainly, gently, and without shame.
- Faithful in stewardship. Time, talent, treasure, and influence are held as the King's resources, not personal property.
How to walk in it
Kingdom Identity is received by faith and matured by practice. Begin here:
- Read 1 Peter 2:1–12 slowly each morning for a week.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to name one place you are still living below your identity.
- Find a discipleship relationship — both upstream and downstream.
- Take responsibility for one person, one place, or one cause as a priest would.
- Speak the Word over yourself when accusation or shame rises.
A people for such a time as this
Royal Priesthood Ministries of God exists to raise disciples who live wide-awake in their Kingdom Identity — kings and priests who walk in authority, holiness, and love. This is not a program. It is who you already are in Messiah. Step into it.
